1) Installation

To install this mod, simply extact the contents of the zip file into the folder where you installed Space Empires IV Gold. An example of this would be:

C:\Program Files\Shrapnel Games\Malfador\Space Empires IV Gold\

This should create a folder called FyronsQuadrantModDeluxe inside the Space Empires IV Gold folder. It should make:

C:\Program Files\Shrapnel Games\Malfador\Space Empires IV Gold\FyronsQuadrantModDeluxe\Data

Data includes all the necessary files for the mod.

To uninstall, simply delete the FyronsQuadrantModDeluxe folder.

Also, you will need to download and install the Image Mod. It can be installed into the default Pictures folder. It is located at http://www.geocities.com/hohoho611ca/imagepack.html

2) Using the Mod

There are two ways to use the mod. I would suggest that you use Matryx's Mod Launcher, which comes on the Gold CD.

If you don't use it, then you need to go into Path.txt, located here:

C:\Program Files\Shrapnel Games\Malfador\Space Empires IV Gold\Path.txt

Change the line that says:

Using Mod Directory                                               := None

to say:

Using Mod Directory                                               := FyronsQuadrantModDeluxe

To play with the original SEIV Gold, change:

Using Mod Directory                                               := FyronsQuadrantModDeluxe

back to:

Using Mod Directory                                               := None

If you wish to combine the mod with other mods, check out Combining TDM+FQM Deluxe.html in the Help folder. The instructions are written specifically for TDM, but they should work for any other mods too. Just replace TDM with the name of any other mod you wish to combine FQM with.

3) Description

This mod makes alterations to the system types in SEIV. It adds many more moons in orbit of planets, and many of these moons will have random atmospheres. Also, solar systems now generally have an asteroid belt in them, which is more realistic.

To use the new systems, simply create a quadrant. The basic quadrants are also included for convenience. They are labeled as "Classic" quadrants.

Due to the way in which SE4 selects homeworlds when starting a game, it is possible to get HWs with the wrong size, planet type and/or atmosphere when using a Bad or Average homeworld start. When selecting a location for a homeworld, SE4 either selects an appropriate sized planet on the map or an empty sector. With an empty sector, a new planet is created for the homeworld. If SE4 chooses an existing planet that happens to be a moon (a planet with a letter at the end of it's name), then the homeworld "status" is transfered to the main planet in the sector. Since these planets are typically not entirely random in FQM, the homeworld will use the size, atmosphere and type of the planet, instead of what it should use based on race design and game setup. This can happen with Bad and Average homeworld starts because there are many Small and Medium sized moons in the mod. It will not happen with Good homeworld starts because there are no large moons. It should not happen often with Average homeworld starts because systems with Medium moons are no longer allowable as starting locations.

Thanks to the following for various ideas and suggestions:
Gryphin, Nodachi, Rollo, Suicide Junkie, Tesco Samoa, ZeroAdunn

The Nebulae 6-15 pictures were not made by me. They are actual pictures of real nebulae and such from NASA. Someone uploaded them to Shrapnel a long, long time ago.
